Beginning August 2, T-Mobile customers can download free upgrade software for the MDA from T-Mobile.com. This upgrade brings the latest and greatest T-Mobile MDA features to existing customers. The upgrade includes Microsoft's Messaging & Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5.0(MSFP) plus additional feature upgrades that will improve the customer experience with the device.
A full list of these features is outlined below.
Bluetooth Stereo profile:
Customers can listen to media stored on the device with a Bluetooth stereo capable headset (i.e. Motorola HT820). On most headsets, when a new call is received, the media will pause and the call can be answered while using the headset.
Device network auto re-scan delay shortened:
- This is the time the device takes to search for a network when signal is lost or when the device returns to a coverage area from a non-coverage area.
- The re-scan interval has been shortened to 45 seconds. Before the new OS, the device could take several minutes to search for a network.
Edge icon added:
When a customer is in an Edge capable network, they will see an E on the top of the device next to the signal indicator.
- "T-Mobile GRPS" was changed to "T-Mobile Data (GPRS)". There were several locations on the device that referenced T-Mobile GPRS. These were all changed to T-Mobile Data (GPRS) to provide the user with a more consistent experience.
- When the device is being charged, the battery icon on the screen will animate (the battery icon will animate from low to high).
- Under SIM Manager, customers will now have the ability to copy multiple contacts from the device to the SIM card.
- The ability to preview ringtones stored on the device has been added. A play button will give customers the ability to play a brief sound preview of ringtones stored on the device.
- An additional two settings were added for messaging alert types (events). These are alerts notifications for Downloading MMS, and Sending MMS. Customers can set different notifications when these actions are being executed on the device (i.e. vibrate, play sound, silent, and flashlight). These new events can be found in the Sounds and Notifications section of the device in the Event drop-down box.
- A partial WAP Browser has been installed. NOTE: The device will ONLY have access to the My Help and My Account links. Any other links in the WAP deck (i.e. Download Fun and Hot Picks) will not be visible to MDA customers.
Messaging and Service Feature Pack (MSFP):
- Adds direct push e-mail for customers with Microsoft Exchange Sever 2003 SP2 (same experience as BlackBerry users). When a new e-mail is received on the exchange server, it's pushed to the device immediately. Before the new OS, the device only had the capability to pull e-mail from the exchange server at different time intervals (set by the user).
- Ability to access and search Global Address List (GAL) stored on Exchange Server. Users can search for contacts within their organization directly from the device. The process is to access the contacts section on the device, enter the first few letters of the name they are trying to reach, tap menu, and then tap search online. This will pull all the relevant names based on the customer's entry.
- Advanced security features (these features are only for administrators within corporate networks):
- Ability for Enterprises to remotely wipe mobile devices and delete partnerships with servers.
- Added Encryption Protocol.
- Certificate Based Authentication
- Advanced password policy with additional security settings
Various Multi Media features improved:
- Customers will only receive one notification when message is downloaded completely.
- Ability to download multiple MMS messages sent to device consecutively.
- Picture size and resolution will not be modified unless maximum picture size 3xx is exceeded.
- Customers will be taken directly into the body of an MMS message unless there are multiple unread messages.
- Renamed "MMS Video" to "Video Messaging".
- Video Messaging size has increased from 80K to 270K. Customers can now send a video message up to 270k in size.
Important Note:
The upgrade process erases all personalized data including software applications and settings, and sets the device to original factory settings. Customers who upgrade to the Windows Mobile software must be prepared to restore all personalized information saved in the MDA’s memory, including software applications, T-Mobile downloads, internet favorites, POP3 e-mails, text messages and picture messages.

WHERE THE HELL DID MY CEILING GO?!?
