HTC America launches HTC WikiSubmitted by Stanley on Wed, 26/07/2006 - 10:48. Useful sites
Following HTC's decision to release their new devices under the HTC brand, HTC America is launching the HTC Wiki. The wiki is currently in a pre-launch state, but owners of HTC devices are all invited to come have a look and join in.
Wikis are a great way to spread knowledge about devices, create a user community to answer questions regarding how to use smart phones and--hopefully--spur people to post fun and creative applications and uses of the device. We've started the wiki by seeding some basic information about the current devices available in the American market, but we're leaving it up to you, the user community, to take it to the next level by filling out the content, adding international devices. And as we really want this to be about the smart phone community--not just HTC and Windows Mobile--feel free to create new pages about other manufactures and operating systems.
The way HTC takes this new step in providing online support for their devices is a surprising one to say the least. You don't see many companies opting for the community driven / Web 2.0 approach, and you certainly don't see many companies encouraging their customers to discuss competitors products or to rant about their own products. HTC does, which makes a good first impression on me. As mentioned, the Wiki is currently in a pre-launch state. It is hosted at Wetpaint, who offer a very intuitive AJAX driven Wiki hosting service. HTC's contract with Wetpaint is being finalized as we speak, untill then the Wiki is hosted on the standard Wetpaint platform. Visitors of the HTC Wizard Web are invited to have a sneak preview of the HTC Wiki (which is fully functional, has a decent amount of initial content, and lets you sign up to add or edit content yourselves), so go have a look, and let your fellow HTC Wizard Web members and HTC America know what your thoughts are.
