SIM unlock your recently bought HTC Wizard

As some of you may know, the method to remove the SIM lock from your HTC Wizard that was posted on the HTC Wizard Web earlier does not work for all devices anymore. It looks like at least the newest batch of Cingular 8125 devices have been loaded with newer firmware than previous models. That caused Lokiwiz to stop from working. This has now partialy been remedied.

The newest version of Lokiwiz (0.3a, attached to this article for members of the HTC Wizard Web) allows you to remove the SIM lock from your device, so you can use your device on any network you like. It does not remove the CID lock though. The CID lock prevents users from loading a ROM that was not provided to them by the manufacterer of the device. The people at the XDA Developers Forum are still working on that.

Removing the SIM lock from your device can be done by following these steps:

  • Unzip the attached file on your desktop PC
  • Make sure that you have an ActiveSync connection with your HTC Wizard
  • Copy the EnableRapi.cab file from the Utils folder to your HTC Wizard
  • Execute the EnableRapi.cab file on your HTC Wizard, confirm all steps with OK
  • Execute lokiwizMSL.bat on your desktop PC
  • On your desktop PC, you will be presented with the SIM unlock code. Write it down
  • Power down your HTC Wizard and replace the SIM card in your HTC Wizard with some other SIM card
  • After bootup, you will be asked for the unlock code. You wrote it down didn't you? Enter it, and your SIM lock will be removed

Please note that removing the SIM lock may void your warranty, and that removing the SIM lock may or may not be legal depending on the laws in your country. Please do inform yourself before using this tool.

More information can be found in this topic on the XDA Developers Forum.

Does this new lokiwiz work on the old ones with the old firmwares? Just curious if I have to keep the old one handy, also.

Hi,

I think Lokiwiz02b has still an advantage where you could unlock the CID as well. Obviously the problem with 02b is that it doesn't work for ROM AKU2 and higher.

I got the solution from XDA-Developers where you must first "downgrade" the ROM to a pre-AKU2 version using this ROM:

ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Roms/Qtek/CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe

The point with this custom Rom is that it can be used on any AKU2+ versions without error message.
The using the Lokiwiz02b you can both unlock the CID and SIM.

The custom ROM explained above is a must-have for every HTC Wizard owner. It's quite stable ROM as well.

Jubin

The unlock works great for my 2.15 rom.. Now, I waht can I do to make the 8125 to indicate that I am roaming when I put in a non Cingular SIM?

Dear Flippy,

First of all, let me tell you that I live where there are no companies like Cingular , O2, etc. So my reply might not be 100% accurate.
OK? So...

When you unlock your SIM, it means that now you can put any SIM card into your mobile. However, the SIM card which you put defines which is the "Home" network (or preffered) and the rest would be considered as "Roaming".
the SIM unlock feature simply makes you mobile able to work with that SIM card.

Now if you go somewhere where another Network has an agreement with your "Home" network (the company you have its SIM card) to provide services, you'll have roaming serivces. So in this case the roaming icon will appear on your phone software.
Even in one location, you have your "Home" network and any additional network with agreement with your "Home" network to provide you services, you can manually switch to that provider using the "Preffered Networks" option in the option menu of you phone app.

In any other circumstances the phone wouldn't show the roaming icon because when you put a non Cingular SIM, you're telling to your phone that this non Cingular SIM is my "Home" / Preffered Provider.

I hope that I could express my point.

Regards,
Jubin

I went to the ftp site you gave us

ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Roms/Qtek/CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe

and the file is not there anymore. Is there anyway you can send me a copy?

Used the Lokiwiz03a to unlock recently received Cingular 8125 and worked like a charm. I must admit I was afraid in the beginning this may do some damage to the phone, but thanks guys I am able to use it on my ATT plan.

Can the files on the 8125 be erased, or do they need to remain for use with another SIM (not cingular). Thanks, great site, keep up the good work.

3. Click "add" and search for the file

To execute it on the wizard:

1. go to start > file explorer > file

After i install and run LokwizMSL.bat it says:

Ok, it worked this time. I realized that my problem was creating a new file for the files that i transferred from winzip. Instead, just unzip files and then extract onto desktop. From there, you can run the files from the folder it creates.

Works like a charm!

thank you!

OK guys need a little help...

I have rom v 2.25.11

I copied the Enablerapi file to my phone

I could not get it to do any thing

I ran lokwiz.03a

It gave me a lockcode. NOT a unlock code.

I closed out

Inserted my t-mob sim and entered code.

The phone took it ok

Now the phone just hunts for a network, it will never get a signal. If i put a cingular card back in it, it works fine.

Any thoughts..

Thanks,
Timmy
