New Cingular 8125 ROM released

Earlier today I wrote about the Cingular AKU2.2 ROM that had been released. The file turned out to be corrupted. Right now the download URL has disapeared from htcamerica.net , but in fact the correct file has been uploaded on the same URL in the meantime.

I am currently downloading the file, and might make it available to members here on the HTC Wizard Web if the htcamerica.net site were to come to a grinding halt. In the meantime you can try to download the new ROM yourself.

After you have gone through the options and checkmarks at installation, at some point your device resets to load the 3 color program, after which I always got a bubble in XP saying it was missing a driver.

I assumed the driver "wceusbsh.sys" was a driver the device could not retrieve from XP after it lost the sync, but that is not the case, I did a search on my computer for "wceusbsh.sys" and it did find the file in 3 locations. I redericted the popup window asking for the file to the right location, the installation finished.

I restarted the update and it worked.
For those of you who can not find the file I uploaded it to a free host, http://www.uploadtemple.com/view.php/1150769310.rar (Note: This file is from ActiveSync 4.2 Beta)

DISCLAIMER: By downloading file you agree that you will not hold me responsible for any of your mess-ups :P

Good Luck

It would be nice if they did provide some kind of change log.

One difference I noticed is on the Comm Manager screen, there are more options shown. One for the new Direct Push Mail, and another one for GPRS.

Besides that I have no noticed anything else different.

Any information on how to setup direct push email?
I can't seem to find any new settings or apps on the 8125 to configure direct push for something like gmail?

If I am not mistaken you upgraded to the customized ROM I directed you to in this post HTC Wizard Web which was cooked by Summiter over on XDA-Developers. The ROM that you installed was based on this exact file just released by Cingular but leaked about three weeks ago. the advantage that you have is that the one you have has all the best bits and pieces from other ROMS and also has some custom programing added to the ROM so that you do not have to install these items seperately thus saving valuable storage space since it was installed in the extended ROM. There is nothing to be gained for you by flashing to the official Cingular release Skettalee, on the contrary you would be losing.

I don´t seem to understand the use of Push Mail on my Wizard, there´s obviously something I´m missing. I used to be able to configure my pop3 accounts into the device, and was able to download all my emails and attachments. How is this different? How is this better?
Please enlighten us newbies!
hehe, thanks...

For all of us in technology-challenged countries, Direct Push Email is a special data rate plan, that sends outlook stuff directly to your Pocket PC.
Please correct me if I´m wrong!

Sure, with normal email that you are using (pull) your device polls the mail server at certain intervals and downloads any new mail to your device. Pull email is all based that the device is not 100% connected to the server, so it has to control when it wants to look for new messages. With push, the device is always connected to the server so mail can be sent (pushed) to it whenever new mail is available. You can a similar effect of push email if your pull email is set to check at very frequent times (though not the same as push), this is what the Wizard had to do in the past, now it doesn’t have too.

I ran the update on both phones I have, and it bricked them both. Got some error talkinga bout "wrong NBF file" or something, and now I just get that 3 color screen at the begining of the update. I dunno what I did wrong. I'm making Cingular replace the phones.

It happened at 80% complete. Totaly lame.

anyone notice that after the ROM update when installing programs on the device via active sync the remaining memory is no longer shown? At least it was like that this installation i just did, not sure what if it was doing that yesterday or not.

Pretty annoying really.
Some times I wonder why I even bother to upgrade anything.

I noticed that when I installed mine, progress ticked away at about 1% per 1-2 seconds until right at 80%, then sat for 2.5 minutes, then ticked away until 95%, sat for 2.5 minutes, then shot straight to 100%. Is it possible that you started messing with it when it sat at 80% for a while and you might have thought it was frozen?

Just throwing that out there.

I just updated to the new rom and everything works fine more or less but, when I try to close the camera with the soft key using smartskey the screen freezes between the camera and the today screen in landscape mode. The only way to get it back to normal is to slide out the keyboard then slide it back. I'm using smartskey 0.52 which I thought was the latest version. Also, is the registry wizard compatible with the new ROM? I'm also using that as well.

This happens to me also - sometime it seems to stick in camera mode, won't close, and I slide keyboard out and then it will close.
I saw something someone posted about a camera bug fix or update from T-Mobile - might that have something to do with this? I'm reluctant to run something specifically from T-Mobile on my Cingular 8125, but it does seem that the camera operation is kind of bug-gy.
