Using Total Commander, navigate to:

HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin
Change the value of Enabled to 0
Soft Reset

You will now have the original blue windows phone skin and no more operator skin.

I have found that if you try to install Dialpad skins they don't show up. That is untill i removed that ugly operator skin, now they all work!

I downloaded the E-Ten Dialer and it looks great, also nice skins as well.

You Can get it here. Makes the keys bigger and easier to Dial.

when in total commander...

in the location bar enter "\\\registry\" w/o the quotes

then you will see the list of reg items and then double-click HKLM and then continue down the list.

Hi,

I have the Orange SPV M3000 packaging of the Wizard. I'm trying to get rid of the stupid background color of the phone app (dark brown and black font !!!).

I did change the registry parameter as suggested here, did get the nice standard blue color but lost the smartdialing function. When I go "Menu/Smart dialing options" I get nothing.
When I change back th registry parameter, I get back the smartdialling, but also the ugly colors:-(

Anyone has seen this? What am I missing?

Thanks in advance for your help.

This is a known downside of this tweak. You either have to live with the standard skin and have smart dialing, or have a custom skin without smart dailing. AFAIK there is no way to have a custom skin without losing smart dialing.

Stanley, thanks for the feedback. To be sure to be sure I understand correctly, what you call custom vs standard skin is what exactly?

On the Orange SPV M3000, the Orange customized skin has smart dialing but ugly colors and when using the tweak I seem to go back to the standard windows one, but no smart dialing?

Thanks.

Hi

I'm new to the community, but my idea is that instead of
changing of the whole dialer skin, one could change
only the dark background bitmap to something better so
the original skin would look more clear.
I've found bkgnd_port.bmp bitmap in \Windows,
but I cannot change it since it is system file.
Probably the solution is easy but I don't know it.
Anybody could help ?

Bart

It looks like the next version of the E-ten dialer will have smartdial support. It currently is in beta.

Hiya,

I've changed the registry value and I when I reset my T-Mobile skin is still there, i've checked the registry and it's still changed...

Any ideas???

OK...I've got an interesting one... I too am running on T-Mobile and have found that even when I disable their dialler, the t-mobile logo still remains in the top left corner (ie. right below the windows menu and right above the 'Last Call:' text). Strangely enough, it stays there regardless of whether I simply leave the default windows dialler up there, or if I try to install one of the many custom skins noted in this post.

Has anybody else come across this?

Cheers!

Just replace the carrierlogo.gif image in \windows with a transparant one (or your own logo??)

I have the 8125. I renamed the carrierlogo.gif file and was able to lose the cingular logo. Unfortunately the samrtdialing feature is also lost. I renamed the gif back to the original name and soft reset phone but smartdialing is still not resumed.

I checked the registry and found a key

HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\MASD\SmartDialing with an entry like 2_2_22954_1_Disable

It seems the phone disables smartdialing if someone tries to remove or change logo. Any ideas how I can get smartdialing back. Would you please let me know what is the key value for the registry entry given above.

Thanks

FYI - to all those who are considering DL'ing Pauly's phone skins, which I highly recommend, the installer link (w/ Vista design) at

http://www.paulya.com/etenskins.htm

did not work for me but instead use the cab file here:

http://www.paulya.com/projects/E-TEN_Dialer_Install.cab

then download your choice of skin as instructed. Works on my 8125 beautifully!

HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\MASD\SmartDialing

Could anyone with the 8125 ROM 2.25 tell me the default value for this key in the registry.

I mean those with the original dialer with smartdialing feature working.

Thanks
Vic

Mine shows the same thing that yours does for that key, and my smart dialing works fine. I have a Cingular 8125 with the 2.25 ROM.

Hi I was having the same problem from last week since I hard reseted my phone. No more smart dialing. Just to play around I have enabled the following registry entry and soft reseted the phone.
HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin
Enable=1
All of sudden Smart Dialing started working. Big save. I don't care about service provider logo but I do need smart dialing. I hope this will help for you.
