Setup your Cingular 8125 as a ModemSubmitted by mfahey on Fri, 09/06/2006 - 07:06. General | Networking
Hello, I'm an avid CarPC enthusiast and 8125 owner. I've wanted a way to connect to the internet in my car for a while (don't ask why.) I just got a Cingular 8125 and thought it'd be a good time to try it out. Well, it works. Albeit VERY slowly. It feels like a 14.4kbps modem. I believe my exact download speed was 77kbps and 7kbps up. Those numbers don't reflect the mind numbing slowness of the device. So the real purpose. Here's the info. Sorry if this is a repost of info. I couldnt' find this anywhere on the site. I found all this on Cingulars site with some digging. This was all done on XP SP2. Targus Bluetooth Dongle or straight USB cable. Setup your phone to connect to your computer. Bluetooth or USB. Here's the info for the Dial Up connection. Telephone #: *99# Username: ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM (ALL CAPS) Then try it out. If you want to know you're using it for sure (the speed will give it away, be PATIENT !!) try disabling your internet connection (i.e. Local Area Connection) on your NETWORK CONNECTIONS control panel, the same place you dialed you phone modem from. DONT FORGET TO DISABLE MODEM LINK WHEN YOU'RE DONE. Otherwise your activesync may not work. This really wasn't hard to find on cingulars site but I thought it should be here. There is also a little better walkthrough if you didn't follow this too well. Again, it was very slow for me! A good idea might be to keep using skweezer.net. I find it makes a big difference. Don't expect to do anything even moderate bandwidth unless your life depends on it and you've got LOTS of time. Unfortunately I don't think you could even do a basic music stream. Hopefully cingular will upgrade to higher speeds soon. or maybe not. Mike This is the closest I can get to the page. It's for the RAZR but worked fine on my phone. PS Props to they guys who found the new ROMS. -- |
