Stereo Bluetooth on your HTC Wizard (update)

Two days ago I wrote an article about adding a stereo Bluetooth profile (A2DP) to the Bluetooth stack on your HTC Wizard. At that time, a major part of applying the tweak had to be done manualy.

The method to get A2DP available was originaly designed for the HTC Tornado, and the .cab file that was build to make installation easy on the Tornado did not work on the HTC Wizard.

In the meantime, a .cab file for the HTC Wizard has been built. Registered members of the HTC Wizard Web will find the file attached at the bottom of this article. Instead of applying a large amount of registry entries by hand, you can now simply put the .cab file on your HTC Wizard, perform a soft reset by holding the Power for 5 seconds. Remember though, this only works on an AKU2 ROM!

After the soft reset you should remove al paired headsets and perform another soft reset. After the reboot, you can enable the stereo Bluetooth profile as follows:

  • Go to Settings/Connections in the Start Menu
  • Open Bluetooth
  • Open the menu with the right Soft Key
  • Go to Devices and select your stereo headset
  • Open the menu with the right Soft Key and select Wireless Stereo

If you don't own a stereo Bluetooth headset yet, you may want to take a look at the Motorola HT820 (Stereo Bluetooth Headphone) and/or the Plantronics Pulsar 590 (Stereo Bluetooth Headset) on Amazon. Both these links are affiliate links.

After three nights of goole-ing I thought my quest to get my T-Mobile MDA Compact II paired and working with a pair of HP iPAQ Bluetooth Stereo Headphones was an impossible task.

As I type I have perfect skip free music playing in ears!

Stanley your a life saver!! Ultimate and endless thanks.

Will installing this CAB in any way void my warranty? I've seen a lot of ROM's with this fix over at xda-developers, but I know installing an unofficial ROM will certainly void my warranty. I'm looking for a work-around (until Cingular releases an Official ROM supporting A2DP) that won't void my warranty.

Thanks for this awesome new functionality!

I have a question, however, concerning listening to audio books, podcasts, or WMP over my standard (Cardo-Scala 500) BT headset.

The other day I was listening to a WMP podcast over the on-board speakers, when decided to try to voice dial over the BT. When I pushed the button on my BT headset to activate a voice-tag, I noticed that the audio from WMP was coming through the BT headset momentarily.

Would anyone know if there is some way that I can listen to audio over my standard BT headset any time I wish?

This is my preferred listening method, as I am generally only listening to an audio book or news podcast, not music. Also, I normally do this as I am riding my bike to work, and am a little reticent about covering up both of my ears.

Best,
Graham

Check out this link. Its an app to redirect all audio to your bluetooth headset.

Sounds like what you're looking for.

Hi there,

I'm new to the site and just found this.It sounds very promising to me.

I have ordered a Jabra headset

http://www.jabra.com/JabraCMS/EM/EN/MainMenu/Products/MobileMusic/JabraBT620S/JabraBT620s

And intend to install the cab file in the article above. Will this also allow me to use the control functions (play, stop, rwd, fwd etc)?

Any help would be much appreciated...

Syphon...

Damn it I bought the headphones and paired them, but it is true that they skip and do not work well with the wizard. Is there a way to make the skipping go away!?!

I'd like to report that your CAB works well for 2.17.7.1 SVE Swedish ROM + Plantronics 590 stereo headset. Even though I haven't overclocked my QTek 9100, sounds is smooth and not stuttering. Many thanks for a great work!

*But* sound quality is really somewhat crappy when you use it for classical music. On the Wizard I usually use 320 Kbit/s constant bitrate mp3 files in order to get some amount of sound quality. However, when using the Plantronics 590 headset, it sounds like if I had used a lower, perhaps varying, bitrate for the compression.

While the treble has a high resolution, the mid-range frequencies and especially the bass gets muffled up. I guess this isn't a problem at all when listening to popular music. However, when listening to polyphonic music, it's a bit boring not to hear the cellos and double-bass clearly. I've confirmed that this is due to the headset by plugging in the bluetooth transmitter supplied by Plantronics directly into my CD player. My suspicion, though, is that this is simply a limitation of the current technology. I still believe that the Plantronics is the "state of the art". I'd be very interested in if anyone could confirm or deny this.

The issue lies in MSM not in T-mobile. this issue has nothing to do with coverage or service area it has to do with MSm 5.0 and its limitations always keep an eye on future updates and keep billgates informed of the limitations i am sure he will address them in future releases of his products.
Please keep in mind that T-Mobile does not create the products that you use on thier SERVICE. T-Mobile Provides the Service ie: GSM / SMS / MMS / GPRS / EDGE / (BB and SK are services provided by T-Mobile but both are supported by thier own individual Software etc et al. thats why when you get to a higher level of support on Sidekick You usually talk to someone in some other country than USA.

You are the absolute greatest. After arguing with T-mobile for an hour, and them telling me it was impossible, it took me less than 5 minutes to follow your direction and it worked perfectly. My T-mobile MDA is working beautifully with my Motorola HT820. How come it seems like tech support people are becoming less and less capable?

Thanks again.

I recently purchased the Tmobile MDA and am interested the Motorola HT820. I have the cab file and extracted. To which directory do I place the files on the MDA. I am new to this process. Thanks in advance.

Ok folks, firstly thanks heaps for this thread, I was initially worried when I could only get my HT820s sounding like a mono handsfree, but the CAB has certainly helped.

However, it has to be said that the sound is still pretty rubbish (i.e. the quality is worse than the pretty ropey headphones that came with my Wizard / XDA Mini-s).

Am I missing something, or is this the best I can genuinely expect from BT headphones? (i.e. tinny, rattles at high bass or high volume, a faint buzzing noise in the background etc etc).

Thanks.

Has anyone had any luck pairing their Wizard to Logitech's Bluetooth headphones (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000ANH0C8/qid=1151762156/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_3_1/202-3648174-9178203).
I have updated my Wizard to the new AKU2 rom and installed the A2DP cab but still cannot get the Wizard to see the headphones.
Any advise would be appreciated.....

press and hold the on-button on the headphones until the LED is flashing blue and red (this can take 5 to 10 seconds). This indicates that the headphone is in pairing mode. Then, on the HTC Wizard, enter "0000" as the PIN - done!
