Bluetooth ActiveSync NOT Working...Please Help

Hi...I had my Cingular 8125 syncing via ActiveSync with Bluetooth. Then I had to do a hard reset. Ever since, I CANNOT get the ActiveSync Service to show up as a valid Service. All that I get is "Headset", "Dialup Networking", and "Serial Port".

I literally have tried everything...Setting up new ports, hard resets, activesync reinstallation, bluetooth driver reinstallations, etc etc etc

What I thought was a great device is now in my opinion a complete piece of garbage, much like the Treos.

Can anybody please help with this issue? I must warn you I have tried almost everything so chances are I have tried.

Thanks for your help!

I had a problem with my bluetooth headset not allowing me to talk into it. I found a registry setting that I didn't think should fix it, but i applied it anyway and it worked. I'd recommend looking at your settings to see if it applies.

It's avaliable here.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, but unfortunately I already have this Registry entry so I don't believe that is the cause of this.

If there are any other suggestions please let me know. I have searched everywhere online and it seems many people have the issue, but I have yet to see any real fix. I have no idea if it is something with the handheld or if it is something on my PC.

Thanks

I've had the Qtek 9100 for a week now, and have been trying to bluetooth sync, but the only services I have available are DUN, Serial Port, and Object Push Service. I cannot get any other service to install/pair with my PC, so activesync only works with usb.

Any suggestions?

Yeah - I have been having exactly the same problem with my MDA - tried Widcomm software, MS software, doesn't seemto make any difference...

I had the same problem. When I initially paired to my laptop i only got headset, serial port, and dialup networking - none of these worked.

I partially solved this by making sure that activesync was open on my laptop when i made the initial pairing. When activesync was open, there was a new option in the list called activesync. This allowed me to sync via bluetooth using activesync 4.1. I can't get it to work with 4.2 so i downgraded. Hope this helps.

Don't now if this will help you out or not, but i spent days trying to get bluetooth activesync working with my xda mini s, often giving up many times. But then finally bingo, i done it. I then made a note of how to do it, so i don't forget it.

Here you go, hope it may help, it works for me with a pc and a laptop.

First the pc....

Load up the bluetooth devices then select the comm ports tab

Add an incoming port and make a note of this comm port number

Then add this comm port number to the connections settings in activesync

Now the XDA Mini S....

add a new partnership, when it picks up the pc you need to set up a password,
example "0000", then you will need to set this same password on the pc
so as they can communicate with each other.

In the partnership settings there should be an activesync service ticked, select save

Finally run activesync and select connect via bluetooth

That should be it :)

CAUTION - USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

1. Using a registry editor for the mobile phone (I used Mobile Registry Editor while synced via USB) open the branch "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\ActiveSync"
2. Delete sub-folders (I had two with a hex-String like this "0016cxxxxxx")
3. In the \ActiveSync folder delete the "LastConnected" Value and set the "Initialized" value to "0"
4. Delete any existing pairing with the computer you want to sync with (both on the phone and on the comuter, if necessary)
5. Verify (as most other solutions to this problem suggest) that the BT serial port (as found in your BT control panel on the computer) is the one ActiveSync (again, on your computer, under File>Connection Settings) is listening on (i.e. BT serial port is COM5 and AS is set to accept connections on COM5)
6. Establish a pairing with the computer from the phone's BT settings - once you have successfully paired one of the services on the computer should be ActiveSync (if it's still not, I don't know what to do for you)
7. From AS on the phone, select "Connect via Bluetooth". You may have to allow the serial connection on the laptop the first time.
8. Voila! (hopefully)

A couple of notes about this:
First, I had previously been connecting successfully with ActiveSync on Bluetooth but had to switch to a different USB dongle to support my BT GPS. I think that's why I had outdated AS settings on the phone that were screwing me up. I suspect that if you are trying to sync your device for the first time this won't help you.
Second, I had already gone through all the registry settings on the computer and BT settings to verify that the BT serial port was configured correctly as was ActiveSync on the computer. I didn't go through all that here because those steps are outlined ad nauseam on many boards.

BTW: props to SomeGeek on it.toolbox.com for pointing me to this solution - I'm just passing it along to a bunch of the other places I looked for answers
