Cingular 8125 Wifi and Comm Manager not working...

I had for a few months, my wifi up and running, and was able to connect to my home airport. one day, wifi disappeared. i go to comm manager and choose wifi, get the spinning circle, but it won't turn on.

ROM version 2.25.11.1 WWE
ROM date 5/11/06
Radio version 02.25.11
Protocol version 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version 2.25.11.102
Windows Mobile 5, 5.1.195, build 14928.2.2.0

Even going to Wifi Settings from comm manager doesn't let me do a thing, and setting up my connections, can't see wifi.

I've done several soft resets, and with no luck, did a hard reset. I can activesynch to my exchange via GPRS fine.

Also, have a 1 GB mini SD card, and phone won't recognize its there. are the two related? is my phone end of life?

I have same phone. There should be an icon at top of screen that looks like an antenna, with two arrows animated when it is trying to connect to a wifi, and the arrows stop animating when it is connected. If you have used flight mode you would first need to turn that off by tapping where the signal bars usually are, and then tapping the link for 'turn flight mode off'. Or if wifi is just disabled the icon may be the letter E in a white box. If you see the E, tap it and then tap link for Turn on wifi (a shortcut way to toggle wifi without going thru comm manager and waiting for spinning circle thingy- only you have to use comm manager at least the first time if you restart the system)

If you see the antenna icon with animated arrows or with no circle at the top, you can help it find the network by tapping the antenna icon, then it has a pop-up bubble that says connectivity, it should have 2 links, click the bottom left one (Settings), it brings up Connections dialog window, then tap network cards, watch it try to build a list of available networks, then pick the one you want. for one you never connected to before, a single tap will give you the screen to configure that network (password if needed, etc). If you've already used one before, tap and hold (like a right mouse click in pc world), and tap connect.

If you can't find any of these screens this way, you should also be able to get there thru start > settings > connections > network cards. If that doesn't do something, you may have a problem beyond my minimal expertise.

There are freeware apps called Hitchhiker, and WiFiFoFum that may also help. Hitchhiker seems to leave a large number of files behind of every network you've ever seen, and it seems to lock up sometimes but then it works anyway. The good news is you might find it easier than all this try-this-unless-that business. Just delete the cache every once in a while. the other program gives a graph of approx relative locations and signal strengths of various networks.

this whole line of thinking assumes it could be a matter of stumbling onto the right settings amidst an unrelated issue of weak signal in the public wifi you are trying to use.

if those programs look dead on arrival though you might have something else wrong.

the only other remotely conceivable issues I can think of apart from a hardware issue would be like a change in permissions for example a fee based system they've recently adopted, or unlikely but on my network I use mac address filtering and your network adapter's unique I'd# would need to be on the approved list. That would not be used on any public wifi.

On the memory card issue, I've heard of people having to remove and reinsert cards sometimes. Not had to myself.

Alrighty then.

thanks for the detailed response, i only wish the software/hardware would show me those options. i think the wifi hardware/antenna is damaged somehow, and i think i've convinced myself to buy a new phone :) that tilt looks nice... thanks again!

Is it still under warranty? Mine had 1 yr. I only wish I'd have gotten the wired headphones replaced before the year was up, one side had a bad wire and now it cuts out all the time. I've been using bluetooth now, can't find any wired set that comes close for decent price... rambling...

so if you're under warranty they should help you with that, if not, the next model up looks prety sweet- I think it was 8525 or something. or you could get lucky and find a good used 8125.

samsung blackjack has great sound quality but nowhere near the pda functionality.

verizon may have some good equipment too, but that's a totally different type of system and provider.

Mine had the same problem. I had 2Gb SD Memory. I´m not sure if Wifi stops working when SD was installed. Also, SD wasn't recognized anymore.

Movistar ask me to take the wiz to warranty, they sent a new one, so I inserted the miniSD (with microSD adaptor), and Wifi stops working. So, they ask for a new wizard. This time I didn´t insert SD, and Wifi is still working.

Well, I had 3 new Wizards in my hands in a month. The Movistar service is good about the change, but I'm not sure if A9100 works with both, SD card and Wifi.

Regards.

mine has a 2gb memory card I got from Tiger Direct, forget which brand, but I am afraid to remove it now because it has been working perfectly, at least in my case.

interesting issue with the memory and WiFi. Unfortunately my phone is out of warranty, its about 2-3 years old. And when I went to AT&T's site to see what a Tilt would cost me, there was no love in saving money. New customer = $299, returning customer after 2 years = $299... maybe I'll wait for someone to develop Exchange capability on the iPhone and wait it out.

I checked and my 2gb mini sd is made by A-Data. It is item A208-1104 at www.tigerdirect.com - was $30 when I bought it, now $15. Comes with adapter to allow you to insert in a standard sd slot in card reader on a pc. I have not had any problems with this card on my cingular 8125
