Send files over Bluetooth from your HTC Wizard

People send files from one mobile phone to another over Bluetooth all the time. On the HTC Wizard the method to do this is not too obvious. A short explanation:

  • Enable Bluetooth on the receiving device and on your HTC Wizard
  • Use File Explorer to browse to the directory that contains the file you want to transfer
  • Tap and hold the file, and select Beam File...

A new screen will pop up with the Infrared option, and the word searching under it. Upon discovery of the receiving device, its name will appear as the second option. Select it and the transfer will start. You may have to confirm that you want to receive the file on the receiving device.

The title and content talks about BT. But when it comes to the process it's talking about IR transfer. I'm confused.

I can imagine, but just try it. When you tell the device to "beam" a file to some other device, the device can do this using IR or using BT, so the options for using IR and BT both show up in the new window when you tell you HTC Wizard to beam a file.

IR is simple for the device, it just starts beaming and that's it, so Infrared is the first option that will show up in the new window.

Beaming a file using BT requires that the sending device (your HTC Wizard in this case) discovers the destination device first. Your HTC Wizard shows you that it is looking for other devices by showing you the word searching. When it discovers another device, the word searching will change into the destination device's name.

Try it. Configure the device that you want to beam a file to so that it can be discovered by other devices. Then tap and hold the file you want to beam on your HTC Wizard, select beam and look at the screen. It takes some seconds, but when your HTC Wizard discovers the other device, its name will show below the word on your HTC Wizard. Now tap that name, and the beaming proces starts. You may have to confirm that you want to receive the file on the receiving device.

hey, my dad has one of the htc wizard devices, and an ibm thinkpad 600x laptop (formerly mine). He has Win 98 on it right now and hence can't use ActiveSync. Will this method allow him to transfer arbitrary files to and from the HTC Wizard via IRDA (infrared)?

hey, newsflash! try using dr. yar-bluetooth from www.mobile4arab.com. it has the capacity to automatically direct the file you're receiving from BT to your storage card. it also shows the percentage of the file you're sending. You can also send messages using this appli. MABUHAY and SALAMAT to Dr.YAR-bluetooth!
