Keyboard Backlight is only on for 2 seconds .... is there a way to increase the time?

I just got my first T-Mobile MDA and was disappointed to find that the backlight on the keyboard only stays on for 2 seconds (seriously). I can not find any settings that allow me to change that ........... does anyone out there know how to change this? I am a novice at this, so please keep it simple. Thanks

Basically we're effed, unless someone can develop a killer app that simulates a functionless keypress (down arrow, while txting, for instance)...
