IIWPO: Let your HTC Wizard phone home

Imagine how you would feel if someone stole your HTC Wizard. Wouldn't you do anything within your power to get it back? Well, IIWPO empowers you a little more. Originally written for the HTC Himalaya it turns out to work on the HTC Wizard as well.

From the XDA Developer Wiki:

If someone steals your device, they probably want to either change the name of the owner, or cold boot it altogether. Either way, with IIWPO installed the device detects that the owner name doesn't contain the name that you have set at the next wakeup, and sends one or more SMS messages to a number you have set. In the best case, the new 'owner' provided address and all other relevant information. If he/she didn't, at least you have the new phone number of your device.

Installing and configuring IIWPO takes a little effort, and a little extra effort is needed to nicely hide IIWPO in Extended ROM. But hey, it will give you the phone number and/or address of the thief if your HTC Wizard ever gets stolen. You can find the instructions at the aforementioned link.

Do mind that your Extended ROM may not be accesible for you. The Extended ROM in older ROM versions could be accessed with Total Commander by navigating to \Extended_ROM\. In newer ROM versions you will still be able to navigate to the Extended ROM, but you will not be able to make changes to it. Bummer...

Registered members of the HTC Wizard Web will find IIWPO attached at the bottom of this article.

I want to implement this really nifty feature, but I get stuck at part b (Put CAB in Extended Rom), step 2 (unhide & unlock the extended ROM). The xda-developers manual says: "You need the Extended ROM Unlock Tools from xda-developers.com for this task." However, if I search
for that a number of tools pop up, mainly for the Blue Angel. I guessed it had to be BA_ERK_Tools. However, when I try to run the "unhide" tool, I get the error message

"The file 'unlockextrom' cannot be opened. It's not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to install this file again or fix it."

Any idea what went wrong? Did I install the right unhide and unlock tools? I have an Orange SPV M3000.

It might have something to do with the ROM version you are running. Which version is that? Early ROM versions could have their Extended ROM tampered with very easily, with newer version that is harder, if not impossible.

I am not completely up-to-date about the latest development in unclocking and changing the Extended ROM. I'll have a look tonight.
