A ROM for every HTC Wizard brand (Qtek)

Qtek has a very close relationship with HTC (they share the same owner), so HTC Wizard owners have been waiting for ROM updates from Qtek with a lot of anticipation. Not without reason, benchmarking in the pre-AKU2 days showed that the Qtek 1.6.7 ROM was the fastest HTC Wizard ROM available. A leaked test ROM from Qtek is the only HTC Wizard ROM available that includes A2DP, however, this feature did not make it into the official release. Because of this, many people still favour the test ROM over the official AKU2 release from Qtek.

The HTC Wizard Web runs on a dedicated hosting machine. I get a fair amount of monthly traffic included with the contract, but extra traffic needs to be paid. Feel free to download any ROM you want to try, but please don't download them all just for the sake of downloading. If you got a few cents to spare, please consider a small donation. If things get out of hand (i.e. my monthly bill gets scary), I'll have to take the links down.

Of course, downloads are available to members only. For now, only World Wide English ROMS are available here.

Qtek ROMs

The following three ROMs are available:

  • Qtek 1.6.7 shipping ROM
  • Leaked Qtek 2.8.7 test ROM, includes A2DP
  • Official Qtek AKU2 ROM

All three ROMs are RUU versions, which mean you can install them simply by executing the file from your desktop PC. Make sure you have an ActiveSync connection, and make sure that your battery is fully charged.

If you own a non-Qtek version of the HTC Wizard, you can only install these ROMs when you CID unlock your device. Directions are in this entry in the handbook.

I have not used all these Qtek ROMs myself, but I would like to see the features specific to these ROMs documented in the HTC Wizard Handbook. If you are running any of these ROMS, please inform us about:

  • ROM Version
  • ROM date
  • Extended ROM version
  • Radio version
  • Protocol version
  • What did Qtek customise?
  • What extra software is included?
  • Your experiences running this ROM
  • Anything else you would like to share

Hi,
I wanted to know if the RUU_Prodigy_1060701_101_11310_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe is the installer for same factory shipped ROM that came on my qtek9100 (Rom 1.1.7.5, dated 9/22/05)

I wanted to know if I upgrade to the AKU rom, can I downgrade back to the shipped ROM. I have heard that lots of ppl have faced problems doing this.
Please advise.

I have similar doubt. Do I need to upgrade? Since this one is working fine. Same ROM 1.1.7.5.

I did try to downgrade from AKU2 and it did not work.
The ROM upgrade program gives an error saying that it works only for upgrades.

Hi Stanly,

I do have an I-Mate K-Jam with current available ROM downloaded from I-Mate website (2.16.9.1. WWE). I downloaded the RUU_Prodigy_2170702... (I think it is Official Qtek AKU2 ROM) and LokiWiz.
First I used the Lokiwiz to unlock CID and SIM (Although SIM looked unnecessary to me since my operator has NOT put any restriction on SIM...) then I used the Qtek ROM on my K-Jam. But it reported error on Vender.
It seems that either A) Unlock process didn't work properly. B) After Unlocking I can switch between different builds of ROM from the SAME vendor
Please review and advise. I need to upgrade to Qtek AKU2 official.

Many thanks in advance,
Jubin

It seems like the included upgrade wizard only allows you to install a ROM with a higher version number. I just bought a new HTC wizard from T-Mobile with (T-Mobile) ROM version: 2.21.2.108 and it doesn't allow me to install any ROM's described here.

It stalls with: "This NBF file cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please get newer NBF file."

Does anyone know if it's possible to force a downgrade?
