I recently found THIS great freeware Today plugin in the XDA forum for the HTC Prophet. Although ment for the Prophet, since it features the same OS (WM5) and processor (OMAP) it runs equally well on the Wizard. I won't describe all the features in depth, but limit myself to this (impressive!) list:

  • Battery status, both bar and percentage
  • GSM network name and cell broadcast
  • Current speed of the processor, and CPU speed management
  • Total time called today and this month, total SMS-es sent this month
  • GSM signal strength
  • Free program memory, free data memory, free Storage memory
  • Battery temperature in C or F
  • Power consumption in mA or mW

The plugin is still actively developed. Currently under development is a CPU speed autoscaler. Also, Spanish, German and Dutch localization is available.

You can download the plugin here.

No... and have i ever lied to you? ;)

Feel free to read the 100 pages on the xda forum on this nifty plugin, and you will know for sure if I'm honest. Or try it yourself, it's freeware -- you can always delete it if you disagree.

I just installed this on my MDA along side my other task manager and I'm not seeing any sign of slow down.

Since four days I'm using the experimental version of BatteryStatus that features CPU speed scaling. It went into beta this evening.

My earlier attempts in this field with OmapScaler stranded on spontaneous resets. With BatteryStatus, however, it works perfectly. I now have my Wizard running from 81 to 247 MHz, with a boost speed of 286 MHz (note, these are real speeds, not OmapClock speeds). 81 is the bare minimum for me. With 78 (the next available step), it locks up. I can listen to music with TCPMP while it happily hoovers around 100 MHz.

And the NT-style CPU load indicator is cute... :)

This version is the last zip file of the initial post in the XDA thread. You need to be a member to be able to download it. I could have attached it here, but every few days a new version comes out. I prefer not to offer a soon-to-be outdated version here.

The plug-in is excellant and displays CB status such as location etc also. can it be made to skip showing the same CB status vide sms, which really fills up the sms inbox when you r travelling.

Thanks

Andre, from your post "... 81 to 247 MHz, with a boost speed of 286 MHz (note, these are real speeds, not OmapClock speeds)"
What's the difference between speeds?
What happens if you have OmapClock installed and install this plugin? there is no conflicts between them (two programs manipulating the clock...umm!)

OmapClock as such doesn't matter. You set the clock once with it, in the worst case it could interfere with the scaling algorithm of BatteryStatus. Of course, the sensible thing to do is not to use OmapClock when using BatteryStatus. (it's not about having them both installed, but about using them at the same time)

Concerning the speed, OmapClock shows the wrong speed. The reason is that it assumes the step multiplier to be 12 when it's actually 13. You can see that when you don't overclock. OmapClock then reports the speed to be 180, while it should be 195.

So

195 is 180 for OmapClock

260 is 240 for OmapClock

286 is 260 for OmapClock

The logical thing in this case is to use Smartkeys without OmapClock...

Give a look to the post about to boot in safe mode, it is the first one that I find on the topic and i found something.

Thanks for the lights

Hi

The new beta version works well on I-mate Jasjar i.e. HTC universal also except that CB info is not displayed, temp. reading is wrong.

Can it be configured for Universal also

Hey, I'm very new to the Wizard and I already know so much! Thank you all guys, I love this forum and all the nifty software I find here ROCKS! I did the overclocking, I have the SmartsKey that is very useful and now this plugin for the battery and CPU speeds and all that just tops the cake!

A big THANK YOU ALL!

PS: Now as I'm thinking you guys might help me with something more. After I restart the Wiz my SmartsKey needs to be started manually. The reason WinMobile gives me is full of shit - some certificates are not approved or something with the file not being there.

Is that normal and is there a way to fix it?

THANX!!

Oh, and I don't know if you guys already know, but Google has finally released Google Maps for Win Mobile! Get it from here:

Thanks! I am using Jason Fuller's Virtual Earth Mobile for a while now, and it's pretty good. I wonder how it compares to Google Maps. Anyone?

Ehh, I can't really tell you, I haven't used Virtual Earth, but I had that map from www.map4pda.com and I hated it. Compared to that one Google is like paradise! I have always loved Google for making everything so intuitive and I'll be honest - they have done a great job once again!

In the past months, a lot has been added to BatteryStatus. Most important, it's now fully configurable with an XML file. Basically, anything in the registry can be monitored and displayed. By default, WiFi information (connection status, available networks, internet connection information) and GPRS data counters have been added.
