GPRS always on

When your plan with your operator includes flat rate GPRS service, it is conveniant to always be connected to GPRS. This saves you a few hands full of seconds every time you go online and let's face it, you want your HTC Wizard to be online! You can achieve this with the following tweak:

  • Use Total Commander to navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A3 *****}\Connections\GPRS*****\
  • Assign a value of 1 to AlwaysOn
  • Perform a soft reset

People have been asking wether having GPRS always on would affect the ability to use WIFI. Don't worry, WIFI connectivity prevails over GPRS or EDGE, so whenever you have a wireless connection available GPRS will be shut down.

In other words, do I lose network while I'm making a voice call. From the other perspective (and apropos to the original topic) does having GPRS on (especially all the time) interfere with the voice capabilities of my phone? Thanks.

Okay, so I've proven that network connection is lost when making a voice call. Tomorrow, when I have access to a land line at my office, I'll figure out the other half of my own question. :-)

This is more a limitation of the network not the device. This will chnange with UTMS.

I applied this tweak and it worked great but it would overide my 802.11 for some applications, all the time for remote amp even though my dhcp server had allocated an ip and I was fully connected and somtimes when browsing with PIE but only on some networks... strange. Any ideas?

I think the GPRS always on tweak is causing my phone to drop calls after a couple minutes, even when I have full bars. I'm disabling the always on setting in the registry to see if that fixes the problem.

Anyone else see this?

for some reason if i use this reg change it also changes the audio speed of my device in effect causeing all song to sound like the chipmunks of the chipettes are singing the song. funny to listen to for maybe a song or to but annoying to no end so im removing this reg setting from my phone for now lol but thanks for the good work.
