Active sync makes me freakin nuts!!!!

Tried e-v-e-r-y thing suggested on the net about when its not possible to connect with active sync, i uninstalled my firewal, uninstalled virusscanner, disabled windows firewall, added the ports which should be open for connecting. tried almost all versions of active sync. Got the newest t-mobile rom. Tried different usb ports, different pc's etc. There s a connection because windows makes a sound when i plug the device in and when i plug it out. When i try to manually connect with active sync it also says it has an usb connection but it wont connect. I checked my windows mobile network settings on the PC but they were all right. Its driving me nuts!!!!! I aint got time for this sjit...Have been trying to solve this for two days straight, bye bye weekend.....Before the mda vario i had a qtek 2020 with wm 2003 NEVER had any problems with active sync. Now with WM 2005 & active sync. my computer crashes, restarts, locks up etc. etc. Hey and u know whats nice, if u want support from microsoft u need to pay a fee of 100 dollars per request per mail or u pay 300 dollars per request by phone.... WHAT??????????? Those people at microsoft are f***in out of their minds!!! Anyone an idea to solve this?

Did you try the latest 4.5 beta version? Which version are you using currently? I always recommend using the one that was shipped with the device in the companion disk.

Hey Carty, Thnx for your reply! I was hoping somebody could help me out with this, all suggestions are welcome. I first tried active sync 4.2 because with my former phone i had no problems with active sync but that was a WM 2003 device, first couple of tries my computer hanged, restarted and shut down. So i tried the 4.5 beta version, didnt help either. Tried all stuff mentioned on the web with firewalls, network, dhcp restart, used the tools from Bev to check if all processes were started. Also tried the active sync that shipped with my MDA Vario, was also active sync 4.2 but tried it anyway didnt work either. Tried 4.0 and 4.1 also but that didnt help.

I'd be glad to help you out. first to say, we have even experienced that some softwares especially those with PIM, interferes with Async.

Please let us know a few details.
Has your device, ever connected before?

You have mentioned that when you plug-in the device, yoi get the sound. Was that the sound of Active sync or a found new hardware sound?

So if its an Async sound, does the green sync icon keeps rotating but not synchronizing?

Hi Carty, well I have connected the device with active sync 4.2 the first times I used it. After a couple of days it my PC started locking up, crashing, restarting etc. I finally found out it was the active sync. The sound is the new device sound and when i unplug the disconnect device sound. Active sync icon keeps rotating for a couple of minutes until it comes up with the troubleshooter app. I checked the log of the troubleshooter but there were no errors found in the log. I found a couple of errors in the WMCGmngr.exe and the other logs of the active sync processes but dont know what those errors mean or how to solve them...I also thought maybe its an app I installed on the PPC but i have hard resetted it a couple of times but that wouldnt help either.... If u r interested in the log with errors i can post it here.

It certainly is frustrating but I finally got version 4.5 to work flawlessly by setting the USB Switch on the phone to RNDIS. It hasn't disconnected once from USB since I found this solution (here on this forum).

Yes Bmac I hoped that that would work for me, i didnt have the option build in to switch usb, but a while ago i downloaded an app usb switch for ppc. When i installed it and tried to serial (RNDIS is the standard on the phone) it wouldnt even connect. With the RNDIS it connects and makes a network connection but the RNDIS i already had without usb switch app. Tnhx for the reply and the suggestion!! :$

Yeah already tried that, but didnt have any time uptill now to look at it, so this weekend I will try it again but under Linux. Hope that will help, because then I wont use active sync but a linux sync program....Also gonna buy a new cardreader (my old cant handle 2GB cards) to work around active sync since it gives me so many problems. Then I can install the software on my PC copy the .cab file to my mini-SD Card and install it. For backup purposes I'm gonna use sbp backup to backup my tasks, appointments etc. to my sd card... Less convenient, but it works!

....keep yer phone up to date....the Treo700w had similar problems after it's update came out. Also, using the Beta 4.5 version is only a temp fix, there are still problems with 4.5 that may cause your connection problem to reoccure. I've noticed it being the worst if you connect using multiple connections. I.E. you don't always use just the USB.

Honestly I stopped using my USB cable a long time ago, I have ZERO problems/headaches using a bluetooth connection.

Just some more suggestions...like I said, your connection problem will possibly reoccure until the bugs are worked out of 4.5

Oh one more thing, Activesync has large known problems with XP for 64bit bases platforms, and WinVista....so yeah good luck on that one for now.

But all in all, seems the program works just fine....never works right when you're in a hurry, and makes you want to pully your hair out with needle nose pliars....yup sounds like a fully functioning Microsoft product. You're ultimate solution...toss the thing out on the freeway about once every other month. It's quite theraputic (oh my phone is an executive perk....so unless you get yours replaced free like I do, maybe hold of on the freeway toss contest, ha ha ha)

I actually own a TREO...but I designed this piece of fine electronics...I may know something (....and hey, be nice to me. I said I designed it...I didn't build it, any problems are the builders fault....that's my story and I'm stickin to it)

Hee uit Nederland?? I dont use bluetooth, bluetooth sucks, that's my experience at least, will work for you, but I wont use it anymore (maybe the technology has gotten better.. :|). Mines got the latest ROM so that shouldnt be a problem...And yes i'm going to wait till Microsoft posts the alpha version of AS 4.5 online. Had no luck with the beta, I have an X86 PC with WinXP, so the vista or 64bit problem will not aplly to my sjit.

Throwing it out on the freeway? Mmmm sounds like a good idea, but I think I will use my WinXP CD when I throw something out, if i could hit some Microsoft employee on the way that should even help more hehe...

I'had problems with active sync. I' foun a way to fix the problem. On your MDA go to start, settings > conections > USB to PC. Uncheck "Enable advanced network fuctionality" That should fix the problem. Hope this helps :) !

Update to the latest ROM 2.26. Then you will have the "USB to PC" option. I' had a lot of trouble with my MDA and active sync. Once I' did that it works perfect every time.

Hey thnx for replying, do you got an easy tutorial for flashing the rom and a download link??
And is the 2.26 rom a T-Mobile update? Else I will loose my guarantee on the Vario. I think i am gonna by the HTC tytn,
it has a 400 mhz proc. The vario cant handle pocketmusic and heavier programs didnt try the tmpcm player but I dont think the vario can handle it (I overclocked to 242mhz btw).......

Yes this is a T-mobile official ROM. Go to t-mobile's web site, can download it from there.

Thank you! Unchecking the 'Advanced Network Functionality' resolved an issue I had with syncing my MDA with Windows Media Player. It would always hang when syncing media files for no apparent reason and the active sync connection would drop.
