But no Activesync over IP .....

"Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 is the latest sync software release for Windows Mobile-powered devices. ActiveSync provides a great synchronization experience with Windows®-powered PCs and Microsoft Outlook right out of the box. ActiveSync acts as the gateway between your Windows-powered PC and Windows Mobile-powered device, enabling the transfer of Outlook information, Office documents, pictures, music, videos and applications to and from your device. In addition to synchronizing with a desktop PC, ActiveSync can synchronize directly with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 so that you can keep your e-mail, calendar data, tasks and contact information updated wirelessly when you’re away from your PC.

Changes in ActiveSync 4.5 Beta 2 help resolve issues related to setup, partnerships, and connectivity with the PC and Microsoft Exchange. In addition, it includes a troubleshooter utility that scans your computer and device to identify problems and offers information and corrective actions to solve them.

ActiveSync 4.5 Beta 2 supports PC sync via USB cable, Bluetooth, or infrared connection."

Is this working for you guys? When i try to use it, my 8125 tells me i need to install ActiveSync 4.1 or higher.

this beta installed okay on my 8125, but there appears to be a problem in that during the synchronization process the unit loses the USB connection (and appears as not connected). it was necessary to remove the device from the cradle and reinsert it in order to again get USB connectivity.

Is there a beta site where Microsoft is accepting comments regarding this beta? has this happened to any other users?

so far I haven't had any problems with using it - tho it did seem to take longer than normal to sync

It must be something on my PDA (Cingular 8125) or something with the 8125 itself, but I cannot get 4.5 beta 2 to be stable enough so it doesn
't disconnect the USB connection. I did a HR and re-loaded everything and that does not seem to help. Went back to 4.2 and still experience lose of USB. Grrrr! Any suggestions?

Thanks to another post, switching the device to use RNDIS instead of serial has solved the random USB disconnects. I believe, although not totally confirmed, that when you do a soft reset, it will switch back to serial. If so, can it be made to always stay with RNDIS?

I have stability issues with the USB connection and syncing with Lotus Notes (don't ask...it's a corporate thing and not just some masochistic tendency of mine). I also can't use PocketController without switching to RNDIS. So I feel your pain.

It's actually a pretty simple fix to lock it into RNDIS mode:
Just change the following registry entry from USB_Serial or Serial_Class to RNDIS.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers]
"DefaultClientDriver"="RNDIS"

It took me forever to find this, so make sure to make a note of it in case you re-init your 8125 and need to do it again one day. You can continue to use the USBSwitch to make temporary changes as needed. But the default will now be RNDIS

Not a problem, if you're phone is running fine and all the data is safe and sound in the device.

However, foolishly, I did my routine backup using AS4.2. Hard reset my PPC. Installed the new AS4.5(beta2). Hooked the PPC and PC together to reload all the data . . .

NOTHING!

The 4.5 install wrote over the 4.2 "WM_XYX My Document" file. Not even a restore of the desktop helped.

:(

I upgraded my activesync to the 4.5 on my 8125 and now everything is all messed up! When I connect via USB, my windows xp tells me its located new hardware - a SMARTPHONE USB! I then get a warning window advising me NOT to install the software. I tried going back to 4.2, but my pc still sees my 8125 as a smartphone usb. HEEELLLLLP
