Hello,

I use my mda vario for 6 weeks now. After 2 weeks it started now and then with some kind of a distortion on the screen for 5 seconds and then there came multiple vertical lines across it, the rest of the screen becomes white and non responding. The only thing to do then is to push the on-off button. This event sometimes happens serveral times a day and sometimes several times a minute! It also occured when using both of the t-mobile roms and now with the cingular rom. Does anybody has the same problem? And what can I do about it?

Thanks

mvanderpot,

My MDA Vario has recently started doing the same fault, initially i just thought it was interferance from a magnets but it has started happening atleast 3 or 4 times a day, sometimes each occurance is a series of small ones, a few seconds after the other. Like you my only option is to trn off and on again, also if it does this during a call the speaker becomes very tinny and i get a high pitched whine.

Have you gone back to T Mobile with this? What was their response? I would imagine that they say along the lines of "not our problem, go to your insurers, you must have damaged it!"

I have the MDA Vario, and it has the same problem... it was fine for the first three months or so, and now keeps getting the white banding on the screen which can only be got rid of by hitting the power button. If it keeps happening, I reboot the device which seems to keep it at bay for a while.

I thought that it could be memory related, but looking at the available memory there doesn't seem to be a problem with that.

Anyone had any joy with T-Mobile, or any other providers?

Ok everyobdy, the problem with the screen is fixed for several weeks now. I've send it for repair and they replaced the complete screen. This was the only possibility to fix the problem. I hope you have a insurrance or guarantee.

Hi,

Don't know if this will help but thought I'd mention it. I've got the kjam which is extremely overclockable. The only times I've experienced the screen freezing up displaying white with yellow horizontal lines, is whenever I clock it beyond 290mhz. This might be related to overheating or that the other components(memmory, ect.) just can't keep up.

Like I siad, don't know if this is related to what your experiencing, but it sure has similarities.

The problem I mentioned was a problem with a white screen en black vertical stripes and no reaction on touch screen. This problem was not related to a overclock. It even didn't occure while the screen was folded out.

My Orange SPV M3000 has the same problem. First the text gets blurry and the screen stops responding, then you see vertical lines and finally the screen turns white/black. I thought it had something to do with overclocking the processor too much (260 Mhz) but I'm still nog quite shure. Does anyone have new information on this subject?

Cheers,

i am still debating wether to call T Mobile or just wait until my constract is through! I must admit that it appears to happen more frequently when i have the phone folded out and am using the keyboard although this is not totally exclusive! If others can say that this is a warranty issue I will push it with them, i work in an office and cannot see how the phone could have been damaged in any way as to cause this??

I called T Mobile and described the problem of the black lines appearing and freezing the screen, playing the dumb user and not giving too much detail. I admitted to dropping the phone back in July but said that the problems have only been happening since September and gradually getting worse (which is true). They agreed to have a look at it, and I posted it off.

It's just come back, after being away for about a week-and-a-half, with the note saying that they've replaced the main board. What they've actually done is give me a new replacement phone (shame it's not the upgraded model!). So all-in-all, very impressed with the service, top marks to T Mobile on this one. I'll now have to wait and see if this one develops the same fault.

I did the following software option changes and it fixed the problem!

1) Follow this from the start menu:

Start > Settings > System > Screen > ClearType

Then tick the 'Enable ClearType' option and click ok.

2) Follow this from the start menu:

Start > Settings > System > Clock & Alarms > More

Then tick the 'Display clock on title bar' option and click ok.

3) Go back to the today screen and then restart the device.

It would be interesting to hear if this fixes the problem for other handsets.

Cheers all...

I'm having a similar problem but it is affected by sliding the screen in and out. Also when I reset, the splash screen is not affected (looks fine) but as soon as WM boots the same problem is there again. Pressing the sides together (holding the keyboard in tightly) seems to help. Once it stabilizes I can set it down and not touch it and it will be OK but if I pick it up to talk on it the problem returns.

How about it? Anyone else?

Only when my keyboard is slid out does the problem occur.

Would dearly love to know how to sort this irritation out.
