8125 Will Not Charge

Hi,

I recently got my hands on a Cingular 8125 and left it to charge from the mains while I went out for the day. When I left it everything seemed fine. The charger light was on and the red charging light on the 8125 was also on.

When I got back, however, nothing was working. The charger light still comes on, but none of the lights on the 8125 light up and the device will not power on. I notice that when I plug in the charger while the 8125 is plugged in at the other end, the red light on the 8125 comes on very briefly and then goes off again. I have tried charging the device from my laptop and the car charger also but nothing seems to work.

Am I missing something? Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Niall

If you know someone with the same device, you could ask to try their battery in your phone and see if it powers up. If it does, it's your battery.

If you don't know someone, you could try visiting a cinglar store or perhaps even a specialty battery store and see if they have one that you could test it out with, or you could use a multimeter to see if the battery has a charge.

My guess is that the battery has failed in some way.

When I first got mine (O2 XDA Mini S [UK]) i drained the battery and it wouldn't charge...

so I sent it back and got another.

A few weeks later the same hapepned, and here's what I found...

The original charger shipped puts out just over 5.5 volts at quite a high mAmp rate.
If you use a different charger, and there are lots of different USB conenctor chargers out there, incl car ones and USB - PC leads, then they don't give out as much current. This is sufficient to top up an already charged battery, but it's not enough to start the charging process on a flat battery - you need the orgiginal charger or one with the same output.
If you have the original charger, tehn maybe you oculd try another one - my guess is that with a very flat battery, you need a 'stronger' charger to get it going.

The long term solution - don't let it run flat!

Hope this helps.
