Q&A wrapup, call for new topic

I am currently putting together a list of questions to send to HTC America, based on the community input from the last weeks.

While we are waiting for HTC America's answers to those questions, there is time to suggest a new general topic for next month's Q&A with HTC. If you have any idea's, please leave them in the comments of this forum topic. The topic for next months Q&A will be chosen from those suggestions, and I will open another forum topic asking for the communities questions about the chosen general topic sometime around September 1st.

HTC Wizard Web, aiming to become the number 1 resource for information for HTC Wizard owners.

Since one of the Wizard manuals has already made its way out onto the net, do you think that they would consider posting the Cingular 8125-specific version (and other variants, too) on the web? Also, it would be good to know if there is a place where replacement parts could be ordered. Thanks.

I think as a community we can let HTC know what our MOST desired features are. For the next topic, we could voice our opinions on what we want to see the most.

What we really need is a feature vote, much like this one that is used for an the open-source Gallery Project. By organizing what we want, HTC may actually listen to us and choose to focus on implementing the top few features!

I would put my vote, for example, in GPS. Perhaps we could have a limit of 3 votes or something.

Ideas:
GPS
faster processor (but with CPU throttling)
thinner form factor (like the Motorola Q)
better camera
better built in speakers (the RAZR speakerphone sounds better!)
Higher screen resolution (640x480)

Nice idea.

I agree with most on your list, except the higher resolution. I think, given the size of the screen, the resolution is already quite high. Unless you want a bigger screen, a higher resolution doesn't make much sense IMHO. What I would like to add to your list, regarding the hardware, is:

- Start and OK buttons (are present in the successor TyTN)
- A stylussilo that doesn't break (the TyTN seems to have the same lousy silo!)
- A jog wheel instead of the up-and-down sliderbutton (also present on the TyTN)

What I need is more memory.
30GB, 60 GB, the more the better.

Considering the features in the Tytn, I would agree with GPS being the next critical feature. The only reason I am not upgrading to the Tytn is the lack of GPS. I am sorely tempted by the iPaq hw6945. Does anyone know of another Windows Mobile 5.0 OS (Magneto) based device with a QWERTY keyboard, GPS, Edge, Bluetooth 2.0, and 802.11g?

I'd like to know how the handset volume can be increased. I refer to the small speaker near the LED's at the top-front of the Wizard.

We definately need to point out the incompatibility with the GoodLink setup. I have now gone through two phones with same problem of the phone locking at the splash screen when doing a soft reboot...thus forcing a full reset and thus reloading all settings again.

It would be great if HTC could provide a download to reinstall the java vm and java mm which has been stripped out by t-mobile.

The question I would like to put forth to HTC would be:

"With all the new applications using location based services that have come out and that are subsequently going to come out, will HTC be adding GPS Receivers into future GSM phones to support those applications?"

- The keyboard timeout needs to be longer, or better yet user adjustable by a setting.

- Edge 3G (like the laptop card) would be a really cool feature so that the internet would be faster.

I'd like to know if there is any solution for the current wireless encryption problems planned.

For lots of people the Wizard behaves like this when connecting the Wizard to a Laptop via USB (even with the current AS beta):

If your Laptop uses WPA 1 + TKIP = Crash of the WLAN Connection on the PC
If your Laptop uses WPA 1 + AES = WLAN connection stays stable

the problem:
The wizard doesn't support WPA2 or WPA1 + AES. The only secure thing (WEP isn't secure) it seems to support is WPA 1 + TKIP, although some people seem to have problems with it too.

So my question: is any support for WPA2 (TKIP or preferabely AES) or WPA1+ AES planned so the Wizard can actually be used on a WiFi Network.

In the current condition I can't use WiFi at all in a safe manner.
WPA1+TKIP is the only secure thing supported by the Wizard but it will crash the laptops WiFi connection (XP SP2 + current Centrino drivers + Active Sync). All the other WPA1/2 combinations are not supported :(
