Build your own set of registry tweaks (Revisited)

I figured it was about time for a status update on this.

The concept is that HTCWizardWeb would maintain a central repository of registry tweaks for the HTCWizard and then users could select several and download a CAB file which would automatically import those settings into their registry.

En/Disable receiving of files over BlueTooth/IrDA Registry Tweak

Originally I had a lot of trouble with my Wizard and Bluetooth, I could HEAR through my headset but couldn't speak through it. I tried this Registry tweak and it fixed my problems. I don't know WHY it worked, I just know that it did.

GPRS Disconnect/Timer Registry Tweak

Read about this over at the XDA Developer Wiki.

Add a 'Disconnect' button (and Timer) to the Connection List for GPRS

Installing Software Without Functioning ActiveSync

It seems pretty obvious that ActiveSync (even 4.1) has a LOT of problems on different setups. Some people can't get it to work ever, others can only get it to work once, and others use a mac (so they're pretty much screwed.).

This article is about skirting the problems with ActiveSync to install sofware on your Wizard.

The first, and simplest is to just download the CAB file version of the app you want to the mobile device. I see 3 ways to do this.

New vs Existing Software

Once I discovered the voice dialing fuctionality of the Wizard could start Apps, i started to think about it.

My first thought was, "Why would I want this? I can't use the app without touching the device." Then i kept thinking about it. It HAD to be useful, I just didn't know how.

Then i was sitting someplace and wanted some SHORT piece of info from my phone which was in my pocket. I had a bluetooth headset on and thought, if the phone could tell me this i wouldn't have to get this thing out of my pocket. The software designer in me took over.

Problem with a "Safety Feature"

So the other day i'm riding in a friend's car having a lovely conversation about a film and my pocket chimes in with, "911 emergency, how can i help you. ... Hello, 911 Emergency. ... Hello?"

I quickly pulled my Cingular 8125 out of my pocket and told the operator that i did not call on purpose, my phone did so by mistake and apologized profusely. After hanging up I'm afraid a similar situation could occur again.
