Ever since its launch on April 1st, the HTC Wizard Web has been running ads to cover the costs of hosting. Since the launch, the HTC Wizard Web has seen its community grow to 5000+ members and the number of daily visitors has grown to 3000+. As a result, the revenue from ads is now exceeding the hosting costs. Time to give back to the community!

HTC America launches HTC Wiki

Following HTC's decision to release their new devices under the HTC brand, HTC America is launching the HTC Wiki. The wiki is currently in a pre-launch state, but owners of HTC devices are all invited to come have a look and join in.

The HTC Wizard Web is still going strong, and I thought it was about time to update all the members about the latest developments.

First off all, the number of members is still steadily growing, and we are nearing the 5000 members mark. That's a great achievement and something I never even dared to dream of.

SIM unlock your recently bought HTC Wizard

As some of you may know, the method to remove the SIM lock from your HTC Wizard that was posted on the HTC Wizard Web earlier does not work for all devices anymore. It looks like at least the newest batch of Cingular 8125 devices have been loaded with newer firmware than previous models. That caused Lokiwiz to stop from working. This has now partialy been remedied.

I notice that members at the HTC Wizard Web have a lot of questions about Push E-mail. How does it work? How is it different from regular synchronisation and the SMS triggered AUTD v2 over the air synchronisation?

On msexchange.org I found an article titled Exchange 2003 Mobile Messaging Part 1 - A look at the Microsoft DirectPush technology that explains just about everything about how DirectPush works. They start with explaining where we are coming from:

Stephen Skarlatos runs his blog My Digital Life, and has a section about the T-Mobile MDA thats well worth reading. In that section, I found a very useful posting about the HTC Wizard boot loader and how it can be used after a failed ROM upgrade.

SnoopSoft, whom some of you may know from their SnoopSoft DashBoard, have released WebCalendar. This is a Today plugin that allows to merge contents of several calendars into one view, including Google Calendars!

The HTC Wizard Web has been up since April 1st. Since then, over 3200 visitors subscribed for membership. The number of daily visitors varies from 2500 in the weekend to up to 3500 on weekdays, and many blog- and forum posts have been made. You may have noticed that a graph showing visitor statistics from Performancing Metrics (re-)appeared in the sidebar. There is a reason for that.

With all the technical blah and news on ROM upgrades, it is good to do some light reading every now and then. I found some very entertaining blog entries about the corrupted Cingular ROM update on momathome.com. Entertaining, but on topic.

Not only Cingular released a new ROM, T-Mobile UK did as well. Yesterday, a version with file name RUU_Prodigy_2210206_22102109_021911_TMO_UK_WWE_Ship.exe was released.

Preparing for a ROM upgrade

With the new Cingular 8125 ROM being sort of available, a lot of users are facing their first ever ROM upgrade. For those who don't feel too confident, don't worry. There is nothing to worry about. If you really want to prepare yourself, here is a step-by-step plan for the upgrade, which I found in this topic on the Cingular forum:

Earlier today I wrote about the Cingular AKU2.2 ROM that had been released. The file turned out to be corrupted. Right now the download URL has disapeared from htcamerica.net , but in fact the correct file has been uploaded on the same URL in the meantime.

I am currently downloading the file, and might make it available to members here on the HTC Wizard Web if the htcamerica.net site were to come to a grinding halt. In the meantime you can try to download the new ROM yourself.

Novii Remote beta 4.0 compatible with HTC Wizard, but effectively useless

Novii Remote beta 4.0 has been released, and according to the release notes now supports the OMAP 850 Processor. That makes it compatible with the HTC Wizard. This sounds like good news, but it isn't.
